Frequently Asked Questions

WHERE DO YOUR PUPPIES COME FROM?

At Puppyland, we work closely with a licensed puppy broker who partners with USDA-licensed breeders that meet our high standards for care and ethics. These breeders have shown a commitment to the health and welfare of their dogs. We review USDA inspection reports and visit many of our breeders, we also collaborate with select professional hobby breeders who meet our criteria for socialization, care, and the well-being of both puppies and parent dogs.

DO THE PUPPIES RECEIVE MEDICAL ATTENTION?

Yes! Every puppy is examined by a licensed veterinarian to ensure they are healthy and ready for their new home.

WHAT IS GIARDIA AND/OR COCCIDIA?

Giardia and Coccidia are common puppy parasites. Coccidia is naturally present in the intestines of adult dogs and is typically introduced to puppies through their mother. Giardia thrives in wet areas and can be transmitted via water, mutual grooming, or from the mother.

To address these parasites, continuing the deworming process started by the breeder and our store is essential. Please note, ongoing deworming is considered standard puppy care. Regardless of where you purchase your puppy, continuing deworming is necessary for your puppy's health.

HOW ARE THE PUPPIES TRANSPORTED?

Our puppies travel safely with certified USDA-licensed transporters, ensuring comfort and care throughout their journey to Puyallup.

DO ALL OF OUR PUPPIES FIND HOMES?

Yes, every one of our puppies finds a loving home! While most puppies are adopted quickly, some may take a little longer. We take additional steps to ensure they find their forever families as soon as possible.

WILL MY PUPPY BE REGISTERED? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Yes, all of our puppies are registered with AKC or AKC Canine Partners. Many also include paperwork that allows for full registration with a recognized kennel club, such as the AKC, ACA, and others.

Should I Spay or Neuter My Puppy?

We highly recommend spaying or neutering your puppy as part of responsible pet ownership. Consult with your veterinarian to decide the best timing for the procedure. As a token of our appreciation, submit proof of spay or neuter from your vet via our Claims page, and we’ll provide you with up to a $200 reimbursement for the actual cost of the procedure. (Reimbursement is limited to the actual cost of the spay or neuter, up to $200.)*

*Restrictions apply. Please see contract page for details.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CONGENITAL AND HEREDITARY?

  • Congenital Conditions: These occur due to environmental or in-utero factors rather than genetics. Examples include influences from the mother’s health or other unknown factors during pregnancy.

  • Hereditary Conditions: These are genetically inherited conditions passed down from a puppy’s parents.

Is DNA testing accurate?

DNA testing is not a fully reliable method for confirming a puppy’s purebred status. While these tests can provide useful insights into a dog’s genetic background, they have limitations, particularly in identifying less common breeds or distinguishing between similar ones. The AKC clarifies that breed purity is determined by pedigree and registration standards, not genetic testing alone. Similarly, Embark notes that purebred status is a human-defined designation based on ancestry records, not exclusively on genetic material.
